Canadian PC market expected to go back to positive in 2010

The Canadian market for personal computers fell in the first quarter and the remainder of 2009 doesn’t look optimistic, says IDC Canada.

Unit volumes in the first quarter were down 14 per cent over last year to reach 1.3 million desktops, laptops and netbooks shipped in Canada, IDC says.

The Toronto-based market research firm says netbooks continued to garner a larger share of the overall market for portable PCs due to their lower price, but the growth rate levelled off in the quarter.

IDC says the PC market should go back to positive growth in 2010.
