Canadian provinces, Maine to colaborate on Acadian festival

FORT KENT, Maine – Quebec and New Brunswick will join forces with northern Maine in playing host to the 2014 Acadian World Congress, which is expected to draw thousands to the region.

About 44 countries from the francophone world are expected to take part in the festivities.

Organizer Francoise Enguehard says the event will be held in northern Maine, northwestern New Brunswick and the Temisoucata region of Quebec.

The announcement was made during the current Acadian World Congress, which is being held on the Acadian Peninsula of northeastern New Brunswick.

Organizers say the 2014 international event could bring more than $50 million to the region and create more than 200 jobs.

It also serves to preserve Acadian language and culture.
