Minister Stephen Harper says Canadians are ready for when passports
become mandatory for crossing the Canada-U.S. border in June.
Harper also says he doesn't expect the deadline to
be changed. He says about 75 per cent of adult Canadians currently hold
passports, which he calls a "huge number."
He calls that a significant improvement from just a few years ago.
However, Harper says he's less sure the Americans are ready for the deadline but that's something they have to deal with.
The Americans are imposing the passport requirement as part of its post-9-11 border-security strategy.
