The day before her 24th birthday, Jamie Carswell was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Still struggling to beat the disease, today Carswell wants to make people aware that even young people are susceptible to cancer.
Her message coincides with today being World Cancer Day.
“I was always trying to get something done and not taking the time for myself,” said Carswell, who was training to become an RCMP officer when the cancer developed. The lump she felt while training was misdiagnosed as torn muscle.
After graduation from the program, she found out the truth.
“People have to listen to their bodies. They have to check on things and not be worried about having to go to the doctor. Change the way that you’re living.”
