Cancon floods city’s film fest

One of the biggest hurdles organizers faced in mounting this weekend’s debut Ottawa International Film Festival turned out to be dealing with an unexpected flood of entries.

“If we had known that we would get this much of a response, I would have booked the theatre for two days just for Canadian content,” said executive director Nina Bains. “We now have so much content that we can’t show this year but we plan on showing next year because they deserve the spotlight.”

Thirty local, national and international films will be screened during this weekend’s festival, which includes a music video challenge and showcase of the top 10 Canadian shorts from the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

The Ottawa International Film Festival opens with a launch party at Foundation restaurant. Screenings start Friday and continue through Sunday at the Mayfair Theatre.
