Canucks may look to shake things up

According to the New York Post, Lance Armstrong has found a new way to turn back the clock. The former sweetheart of Sheryl Crow was reportedly making out with 21-year-old Ashley Olsen (of Olsen twins fame) at a New York nightclub. No word on whether or not he’ll be tested for performance enhancers.

• A win over the Predators tonight at GM Place would match last month’s home ice win total for the Vancouver Canucks. That’s all you need to know about how the season has started for the defending Northwest champs. GM Dave Nonis didn’t imply a trade was imminent, but he did say he should have a very good idea as to what this team is capable of by the 20-game mark. Three Canucks’ scouts, including assistant GM Steve Tambellini, were spotted at the Atlanta-Montreal game on Tuesday, and TSN’s Pierre McGuire wondered aloud if Vancouver was going to do some dealing in the near future. However, the Canucks were said to be a suitor for then-Habs’ defenceman Sheldon Souray last year and that never materialized. But McGuire pegged the Canucks as one of six teams he could see making a move early this season if there wasn’t noticeable improvement in November.

• Props to the media members who voted on the CFL West Award nominees for doing the right thing. As I told you recently, there was some pressure to “spread the wealth” when it came to nominating players this season, as B.C. players took home five of six awards last year. But for the second straight season, the Lions could nearly run the table. Defensive end Cam Wake is up for both Defensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year; slotback Jason Clermont got the nod for Most Outstanding Canadian; tackle Rob Murphy is looking to win back-to-back Most Outstanding Lineman awards; and Ian Smart is a finalist for Special Teams Player of the Year. These players were the best in their respective categories, and I’m proud of the media for choosing not to overlook this year’s accomplishments because of last year’s dominance.
