Lawyers involved in Canwest’s restructuring appeared in a downtown Toronto court yesterday to iron out how severance payments owed to former employees will be handled as the company restructures under creditor protection.

The severance payments were essentially halted when Canwest filed for creditor protection, and former workers will have to line up with all others who are owed money by Canwest to make a claim. At issue yesterday was the legal representation of various employees.

Canwest lawyer Lyndon Barnes told the court he felt the employees were well-represented, and that further dividing up representation for employees could delay restructuring.
