Cape Breton police investigating possible drive-by

Police in Cape Breton are investigating a possible drive-by shooting after first responding to a call of property damage.

A homeowner who was sleeping at his residence on the Point Aconi Road in Mill Creek on Sunday night, told police he heard a loud thump, before waking and noticing his window had been broken.

“The call came into the police as property damage and it turned out after further investigation it was the pellets from what they believe was a shotgun blast,” said Sgt. Jim MacLean of Cape Breton Regional Police North Division.

Members of the forensic identification unit were called in to retrieve evidence at the scene and now believe two shots were fired just before police were called at 12 a.m.

Residents in the neighbourhood told police they were in bed sleeping at the time.

No one was hurt in the incident. Police say the homeowner reported seeing a dark green car with a loud muffler driving in the area.
