An unconfirmed report by the Somali Journalists Rights Agency is claiming that abducted Sylvan Lake native Amanda Lindhout is pregnant in captivity.
Daud Abdi Daud, a spokesman for the agency told Metro yesterday his organization “confirmed at the end of March that Amanda was pregnant.”
Daniel Barbarie, a spokesman for Foreign Affairs, would not comment on the report, saying only “we are pursuing all appropriate channels to secure her release.”
Lindhout and Nigel Brennan, an Australian photographer, were abducted outside of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu last August.
On Sunday, Lindhout or possibly someone impersonating her, held a five-minute conversation with a correspondent for Agence France-Presse.
