Caribana plans even bigger bash

Just a year after its 40th anniversary blowout, Caribana plans to go bigger and better this summer with a mix of new events and old favourites, such as the popular Sunday picnic on Olympic Island.
The festival, a celebration of Caribbean culture considered the biggest of its kind in North America, drew some 1.2 million revellers last year, and there are hopes for even larger crowds with the new events, organizers said yesterday as they unveiled the summer’s lineup.
Among the new additions for the festival, from July 15 to Aug. 3: A series showcasing Canadian calypso and soca performers; and the Caribana Gala on July 25.
