Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of an apartment fire in Fairview that left 15 people homeless on Monday night.
Halifax regional fire spokesman Capt. Dave Meldrum said firefighters were called to a four-storey apartment building at 27 Evans Ave. at about 8 p.m. and were met with heavy black smoke coming from the third floor. Firefighters helped evacuate several residents inside the building. Meldrum said the fire was quickly put out, but it caused heavy smoke and water damage to the top-two floors, making them off limits to those living there. There were no serious injuries, but one man was treated for smoke inhalation on scene.
Investigators spent much of yesterday trying to determine a cause of the blaze.
