CBC Radio gunman taken into custody without incident

A man is in custody after a five-hour standoff at the CBC Calgary building.


Calgary Police were called out to the CBC Radio building early this morning after reports an armed gunman had entered the building.

Police received a call at around 1:50 a.m. that a distraught male armed with a handgun had entered the foyer of the CBC's Westmount road building.


According to police communication was established with the suspect and after nearly five hours of negotiations the man was taken into custody without incident around 7 a.m.

Traffic was halted in both directions of Memorial Drive NW and the bike path between 14 St and 19 St NW was also closed off.
