The president of the Edmonton Oilers says there’s absolutely no intention to move the hockey club to Hamilton even though he privately met with local politicians in that city yesterday to work on “some land deals.”

“This is not about the Oilers relocating, this is not about Edmonton,” said Oilers president and CEO Patrick LaForge, about his meeting with Hamilton city councillors yesterday.

LaForge’s visit in Hamilton comes weeks after talks between the city and Oilers owner Daryl Katz stalled over a new downtown area.

When the news broke about the visit, some suggested the move could put pressure on Alberta’s government to fund the new rink.
