Changing the Channel

Some people find changing the TV channel to be enough exercise for one day.

But others, like Halifax’s Kristin Roe, instead chose to swim across the English Channel in the hopes of raising $100,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the Nova Scotia Gambia Association.

“The swim itself is amazing, but for us as an organization it’s amazing how passionate she is for the causes, to highlight the work of our organizations to fight against HIV and AIDS,” said Andrea Macdonald, executive director of the Nova Scotia Gambia Association.

Roe had been aiming to finish the 34-kilometre swim in about 15 hours, but completed it in about 17 hours.

Water temperatures during the swim hovered around 16 C and seas were moderate with whitecaps.

Although exhausted, Roe was reported to be in good condition afterwards.
