Chaos follows Brampton stabbings

In broad daylight at a quiet Brampton shopping plaza, a man stabbed a woman to death. A Good Samaritan jumped in to help. He paid with his life.

When police officers arrived, they found the attacker stabbing himself in the neck with a knife. Nearby were the bodies of his victims, a pool of blood puddled on the pavement of the parking lot.

One officer fired his Taser, striking the knife-wielding man. The 28-year-old man fell to the ground and was quickly taken to hospital where he was in critical condition last night and in police custody.

It was a chaotic scene in Red Maple Plaza, near McLaughlin Road and Williams Parkway in Brampton, around 12:35 p.m. yesterday. Police said the domestic dispute erupted when a man attacked a woman with a knife.

The identities of the three people involved have not been released.

The woman and Good Samaritan were pronounced dead at the scene.

The wounded man who was Tasered by police was being treated in hospital last night for self-inflicted stab wounds. Police would not comment on whether he is expected to live.
