Charges in 2004 diamond ring killing

An alleged member of the UN Gang has been charged with the 2004 murder of a man selling an engagement ring.

Chief Const. Doug Lepard said that new evidence led police to a man jailed in Ontario on drug charges.

On Jan. 6, 2004, police arrived at a building on Haro Street to find the body of Marc Rozen, who was advertising a platinum solitaire ring for sale. The ring was never recovered and it is believed to be the motive for the murder, Lepard said.

Michael Bruce Newman, an alleged member of the UN gang, has been charged with killing Rozen.

Jack and Doreen Rozen, said the two Vancouver police officers who broke the news of their son’s death promised that an arrest would be made.

“They kept their promise,” the Rozens said in a statement. “It is a tribute to these two outstanding (officers) and to the entire Vancouver police force that a suspect has been charged today with the tragic death of our son.”
