Charges laid in highway standoff

RCMP laid five charges against a metro man after a seven-hour highway standoff Sunday.

The 39-year-old rammed his car into a police cruiser before being chased and finally pulling over on highway 107. The man said he had a gun and began a seven-hour standoff before surrendering peacefully, police say.

Yesterday, police charged the man with two counts of mischief, flight from a police officer, assault with a weapon, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
