Charges laid in stabbing; man in serious condition

An Edmonton man is now facing an attempted-murder charge after someone with several stab wounds collapsed in the backyard of a southeast neighbourhood home Saturday.

Police say a man was doing yard work near 107 Avenue and Hardisty Drive when a bloodied man stumbled into the backyard and collapsed sometime around 12:30 p.m.

The homeowner quickly dialed 9-1-1 and immediately began first-aid before paramedics rushed the 28-year-old to hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition, police said. It didn’t take long for investigators to identify a suspect who was later arrested.

Both the victim and the suspect are known to each other, but it’s not believed the attack is gang- or drug-related, say police.

Michael Hancock, 23, was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon and robbery.
