A 27-year-old North Vancouver man who reputedly impersonated a police officer and conducted “invasive” searches on unsuspecting victims could face charges of sexual assault.

All three victims are aboriginal men between 19 and 40 years of age.

A man allegedly told victims, “I’m an undercover drug officer. I believe you’ve got drugs on you and I’m going to search you,” said RCMP Const. Michael McLaughlin.

The ensuing search was so invasive police are recommending one charge of sexual assault, said McLaughlin.

Police encourage anyone who has been approached in a similar manner to contact them. Police said the incident is rare, and that anyone who identifies himself as a police officer must show identification.
