Charred remains found on train tracks

A body was discovered inside a burning car yesterday morning on railway tracks in Langley.

The badly burned remains were discovered by firefighters around 1:45 a.m. inside the burning car, which was located about 200 metres down railway tracks west of 96th Avenue.

Cpl. Dale Carr, a spokesman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, said investigators didn’t have an identity, nor even the sex of the victim.

“It’s completely burnt,” Carr said. “The condition of the body is not readily identifiable.”

He did add that the vehicle was driven down the tracks from 96th Avenue and had not been struck by a train. The CN tracks were closed most of the day and finally opened around 4 p.m., when the vehicle and body were removed on a flatbed truck.
