The Ottawa Hospital announced the launch of the Emergency Department Reporting System at www.ontariowaittimes.com Thursday.
Together with provincial initiatives including the Wait Times Strategy, the Aging at Home Strategy, Tele-Health and Health-Care Connect, the program should help strengthen Ottawa’s emergency wait time performance, while tracking its progress, said hospital CEO Dr. Jack Kitts.
“The Ottawa Hospital compares favourably with the 13 adult teaching hospital sites in Ontario that constitute its peer group,” said Kitts.
But while the General campus has the lowest emergency department length of stay for high-risk emergencies, the hospital continues to face challenges, including the second-highest number of patients with high-risk emergencies in the province.
“There is no doubt that our focus on treating the sickest, most vulnerable patients puts significant pressure on our ability to treat less vulnerable patients more promptly,” said Kitts. “It does not, however, mean that our patients get anything short of the best available care.”
