Four children were sent to hospital with possible cases of E. coli after an outbreak at a Sri Lankan group’s barbecue at Morningside Park on Canada Day.
One of the children has “serious kidney complications,” Toronto Public Health said in a statement Friday.

Three of the children were related, the Pungudutivu Students Association’s Ramesh Senphil said, and three of them are six years old or younger. One had surgery Wednesday night. “They’re doing good,” Senphil said. “But everybody is worried.”
The illnesses of 10 others who attended the picnic are being investigated for E. coli.
