Company surging ahead with trio of battery cars
In its new Cerberus-owned life, Chrysler has plugged itself into the race to make an environmentally sustainable car. With its first hybrid vehicles just now coming to market, Chrysler is surging ahead with plans for extra-range electric vehicles in the concepts.
This trio of battery cars, set to appear at the Detroit auto show in January 2008, all use lithium ion batteries as a primary power source.
The Dodge Zeo runs on battery power alone and is reportedly good for 400 kilometres between charges.
The Chrysler ecoVoyager has a hydrogen fuel cell as a backup to the battery pack, while the Jeep Renegade has a small diesel engine to add to its operating range.
Chrysler is keeping mum on exactly what kind of diesel the Renegade will have, but, according to the company, it’s capable of more than 110 mpg (US).
