Chumir clinic opens doors

A new state-of-the-art medical health centre is opening its doors to inner city residents today, offering more programs and services to patients.
The opening of the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre, which began servicing clients this morning, is set to take over 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week patient care for the now-closed 8th and 8th clinic, according to health officials.
“We’re just going to pick right up where the old one left off and we’re expecting to be busy for sure,” CHR spokesperson Bruce Conway told Metro.
The new centre, located at 1213 4 St. SW, will provide a variety of up to 25 new programs and services and will cater to those who work, visit and live downtown, Conway said.
“It’s a brand new, state-of- the-art facility and centre for urgent care. We will be able to provide more service to more clients. It’s really exciting for us,” he added.
The first of three phases include Calgary Laboratory Services, diagnostic imaging and Safeworks. Additional programs will phase in by the end of this year.
