Cirque’s new show ready to hit the big top

It’s 20 metres high, 50 metres wide and took about 100 people to set up.

Cirque du Soleil’s trademark yellow and blue Grand Chapiteau, or the Big Top, was erected at Stampede Park Thursday in advance of the KOOZA limited engagement starting next week.

“It’s a lot of work, but we have a travelling team of about 146 people to make it all possible,” said Alana Morgan, KOOZA technical operations director. “We’re fully self-contained.”

While the tent has been erected, organizers still have to transform the park into the village by the time the show begins, she added.

KOOZA publicist Emilie Nadeau said Calgary is always a wonderful venue for the Cirque shows, and this is the fourth time the city has been a host.

“This show is unlike anything anyone has seen before and will have people at the edge of their seats, and there is not a bad seat in the house,” Nadeau said.

“It’s such a magnificent performance and it will really captivate audiences.”
