Citizens give cops good grade

Gangs, drugs and a lack of resources concern Calgarians when it comes to policing, but overall police are doing a good job, according to a police citizen survey.

The Calgary Police Commission released results yesterday with more than 1,000 polled in July and August and 92 per cent said they were pleased with the job police are doing.

“We’re happy about the results but we’re not going to sit here and pat our backs for too long.

We have to keep up the good job and keep moving forward,” deputy chief Al Redford said of the results.

Police commission chair Denis Painchaud acknowledged Calgary has one of the lowest police to population ratios in the country, but said police will continue to use the resources they have effectively.
