Why do we as hard-working citizens of Toronto not acknowledge or offer assistance to homeless people?

I feel so sad seeing some of them sleeping head first on the streets, in cardboard boxes.
I just find it funny how we as Torontonians expect Mayor David Miller to help prevent homelessness and getting them off the streets of Toronto, when we as citizens don’t offer the homeless help.
As we get closer to Christmas, I just wish that there was some way that we could offer help to the homeless without causing problems.
