Vancouver’s city council is looking at donating half of its Olympic and Paralympic banners to raise money for relief efforts in Haiti.

A motion before council on Tuesday suggests the city donate 3,000 of the 6,000 Olympic and Paralympic banners to UNICEF to auction off.

A report by city staff estimates that the 3,000 banners could raise $300,000 in donations.

The remaining banners would be used as originally intended, that is to “fund inner-city initiatives.”
