They are distant relatives, but Barack Obama will not help Vincent Libweshya get elected as mayor of Ottawa.

“I’m going to do it all on my own,” said the 25-year-old entrepreneur and community activist.

Libweshya is running because he believes the city deserves a lot more than what it’s been given from the current mayor. The fact that 14 people are registered to run for that office is evidence of the dissatisfaction with the city council’s performance in the last four years, he said.

Although Libweshya agrees with the principle of a downtown transit tunnel, it’s the wrong time, he said. OC Transpo needs to focus on better customer service and improving riders’ experience first, he said.
