City man dies with H1N1 flu in his system

A second Torontonian with influenza A (H1N1), also known as swine flu, has died. The 60-year-old man, who had the H1N1 virus and suffered from congestive heart failure, died Sunday.

The man had been hospitalized for about three weeks at Toronto Western Hospital, where staff recently had begun removing him from life support.

It is not known whether the virus was a factor in the man’s death, said Andrew Morrison, a spokesman for the Ministry of Health.

“We understand that the person had a number of underlying medical conditions. We do not know how the flu contributed to the person’s death,” he said.
