City’s energy use drops 6 per cent during Saturday’s Earth Hour

Ottawans dropped their energy usage six per cent during Earth Hour Saturday night.

Between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., Ottawa residents marked a six per cent decrease in energy consumption as compared to the same time period the week before.

This year marked the city’s third in the global campaign, which had participants in 88 countries shut off all non-essential lighting for an hour.

“Earth Hour 2010 was a global call to stand up, show leadership and demonstrate how a simple act conducted on a collective basis can make a difference,” said Mayor Larry O’Brien.
