Cape Breton North Tory MLA Cecil Clarke is expected to announce today he will make a bid to be the new MP for the riding of Sydney-Victoria.

Clarke will reveal his plans on the Sydney waterfront when he hosts a barbecue from noon to 1 p.m.

“All I can say is that the announcement will be about my political future,” said Clarke, declining further comment.

Liberal Mark Eyking, who is also expected to run when the next election is called, currently holds the federal riding.

First elected in a March 2001 provincial byelection, Cecil Clarke was re-elected as a MLA in the 2003, 2006 and 2009 general elections.
