Classified, a.k.a. Luke Boyd, has come a long way in 11 years, but some things haven’t changed.
“The first time I’ve ever seen someone rap back my lyrics, that was just a crazy feeling,” he said yesterday just hours after his wife, Kim, gave birth to his second daughter. “I still get the same feeling when that first beat kicks in and I know it’s my cue to walk out.”
Enfield’s own Classified said his hour-long set will be a mix of old and new. He said it’s a good contrast to playing high-profile shows like the Juno Awards and the Much Music Video Awards that only allow for one song performances.
“It gives me a whole energy that makes me feel young again,” said the 32-year-old, who will share a party bus with 40 of his friends to the concert.
Saturday’s lineup is jammed packed with local names including Chad Hatcher, the Jimmy Swift Band and Rich Aucoin.
John Landry of the Stanfields, another Halifax-based band on the bill, said the boys have never played a gig this gigantic.
“It’s going to be a pretty cool day, definitely not business as usual,” said Landry, who joked about drinking Crystal with Fergie at the after-party. “We’re pretty excited to play the big stage.”
