Climate adviser recalls Nepal’s white peaks

In the office of Care in Nepal, climate advisor Maksha Ram Maharjan is preparing himself to go the COP 15.

He will be there to stress the problems of Nepal and the whole Himalaya Region, explaining how the receding glaciers threaten a large amount of the population in Asia.

He looks out of the window and points to the peaks that can be seen in the distance:

“As a child I used to sit with my mother and look at the white mountains, and we would imagine they looked like animals or other things, just like people try to see different shapes in clouds. So we would find a white sheep or a heron … now the peaks are black.”
