Closer to the Hart

Vancouver Canucks left-winger Daniel Sedin will go for an unprecedented family double at the NHL awards banquet June 22.

Vancouver Canucks left-winger Daniel Sedin will go for an unprecedented family double at the NHL awards banquet June 22.

Sedin, right-winger Corey Perry of the Anaheim Ducks and Tampa Bay Lightning right-winger Martin St. Louis were named finalists for the Hart Trophy Thursday.

Sedin’s twin brother and linemate Henrik Sedin won the MVP award last year. They could become the first brother tandem to win the Hart in consecutive years.

“It’s exciting for us,” said Daniel Sedin.

“Last year was kind of neat.

“We never expected any of us to be up there, to be mentioned with those kind of players. To do it back-to-back is obviously nice. But it’s something to look back at after our careers.”

Daniel Sedin also had nothing but praise for Perry and St. Louis.

“They’re both great players and mean a lot to their teams,” he said.
