Coast Mountain Bus drivers halting engine idling

City bus drivers in the Lower Mainland will no longer idle their engines at bus loops, Coast Mountain Bus announced Thursday.

City bus drivers in the Lower Mainland will no longer idle their engines at bus loops, Coast Mountain Bus announced Thursday.

The initiative aims to reduce the bus company’s environmental impact. It avoids unnecessary emissions and the wasting of fuel. It also decreases engine wear and complies with municipal anti-idling bylaws.

Under the new rules, a bus will be shut down if the driver expects to be idle for more than three minutes.
