Dinner for two with milkshakes: $38
Signature Drink: Milkshake ($5)

At The Diner, you can expect hospitable servers and modest plates that are comforting and family-friendly.

We ordered a large strawberry Milkshake ($5) to share. It met our hopes for something sweet and creamy, but it lacked a fresh strawberry taste.

Perogies ($9), a starter at The Diner, were satisfying topped with sautéed onions and crispy bacon pieces. Although by appearances the perogies looked crispy, they tasted less fried than boiled.

You can’t go to a diner without ordering the Classic Hamburger ($10). It was grilled nicely and the plate was fry-happy. Another favourite was the Baked Mac and Cheese ($13) that was tangy and creamy. One person in our party is a Beef Dip ($14) connoisseur and was not disappointed with the beef served on a herbed focaccia bun with flavourful jus on the side. The Diner also offers four versions of Poutine ($4), and the four-cheese version was irresistible and poised to comfort you with calories.

The dessert options are displayed in a glass case, and the layered Chocolate Pudding Cake ($6) was the popular choice for our table. Although the under 12 entourage enjoyed it, I found it somewhat bland and the icing was a touch waxy.

For a restaurant that tries to be a diner, this one meets expectations and will please families dining out with children.
