BEAVERBANK,
N.S. - A Halifax-area community centre and adjoining volunteer fire
station is badly damaged after flames tore through the structure
overnight.

Capt. Dave Meldum of the Halifax Regional Fire and
Emergency Service says the fire broke out around midnight at the
building in Beaverbank.

Meldrum says the community centre side
of the building - which houses a daycare, an RCMP community office and
a public computer-access facility - is “significantly damaged” and
“probably lost.”

He says an adjoining volunteer fire station was not staffed when the fire broke out.

No one was hurt in the blaze.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
