Will July’s Halifax Rocks concerts rock?
Based on who’s performing, not everyone Metro talked to yesterday is so sure.
“It’s not my style of music,” said Chris MacIsaac, a 33-year-old rock fan who enjoyed last year’s Kiss concert and whose ideal show would feature Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.
“Kid Rock is just more pop, I would say.”
The Halifax Common has hosted artists like Paul McCartney, Kiss and the Rolling Stones, and some sensed that Power Promotional Concepts, which is putting on Halifax Rocks 2010, could be sagging under the precedents of bringing in acts that appeal to everyone.
“Paul McCartney spoke to a lot of people and crosses a lot of generations, so I think that’s a better choice than Kid Rock, frankly, who’s just going to attract a really specific crowd, and I think he’s kind of outdated,” Jessica Ross, 24, said outside the Halifax public library yesterday.
“I’m not too particularly keen on that (lineup),” added Andrei Mihailiuk, 20, who plays in local folk band New Providence and who winced when he learned who would be headlining.
“At least Kiss has the makeup and showmanship.”
But the reception isn’t all negative.
“It should be good fun,” said Calvin Lucas, 25, who said he’d attend the show if he wasn’t working.
