Hundreds of music lovers crowded the foyer of the NAC yesterday to revel in Christmas cheer, National Arts Centre Orchestra-style.
Young volunteers collected donations for the Ottawa Food Bank and the Snowsuit Fund as members of the NACO, the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir and Junior Kidsingers performed both seasonal and family favourites.
Held since 1989, the concert is a fundraiser for the city’s most-needed charities, said Ottawa Food Bank executive director Peter Tilley.
“For many of us in the orchestra, playing the Fanfair concert has become the highlight of our holiday season,” said Christmas FanFair organizer Marjolaine Fournier. “The kind and generous spirit shown by everyone, the kids, the singing, the music, and the surprises just make the whole day exceptional.”
The Ottawa Food Bank provides 43,000 people — 40 per cent of whom are children — with emergency food assistance each month.
