Congress: Hated, but productive

Love it or hate it — though let’s be honest, it’s likely the latter — the current 111th Congress has been the most productive House in nearly 50 years, The Associated Press reports.

WASHINGTON – Love it or hate it — though let’s be honest, it’s likely the latter — the current 111th Congress has been the most productive House in nearly 50 years, The Associated Press reports.

With elections nearing, the popular narrative has been the “vote the bastards out” dissatisfaction of the American people. But despite alarm over health care and bailouts spending, says Norman Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute, the 111th is “at least on a par with the 89th,” the Democrat-controlled session that created Medicare and Medicaid, and battled for civil rights — victories which cost the party 48 seats in ’66.
