Forget Google. Facebook is fast becoming the one true king of the Internet.
On Thursday, the Web 2.0 site announced it had amassed a social network of 500 million users — having added some 200 million in the past 11 months alone.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, predicted they’d reach 1 billion in the next year — all this despite some controversies surrounding privacy concerns.
“Now a lot more people have the opportunity to stay connected with the people they care about,”?Zuckerberg said.
The Palo Alto, Calif.-based Internet company is still privately owned, though a public offering is highly anticipated.
