Cop attacker gets longer sentence

The Alberta Court of Appeal has lengthened a sentence for a Calgary man who only received one day in jail.

Police were called to a home in April 2008 to reports of domestic abuse and 42-year-old Roberto Ponticorvo began to wave a knife at officers before being shot in the leg.

The Court of Appeal agreed with the Crown that the sentence did not fit the crime. Ponticorvo has now received one year in jail for the assault and an additional 30 months for attacking the officer.
