Cop gets seven days to resign

An Ottawa police officer accused of unlawfully using CPIC, and then divulging the information, has been given seven days to resign from the force or face dismissal.

The decision was rendered in a hearing Thursday by retired deputy chief Terence Kelly, who was overseeing the Police Services Act charges against Ottawa Police Const. Harinderpal Mamak.

Mamak, who pleaded not guilty when the trial began in February 2008, was found guilty of one count of insubordination and one count of breach of confidence last year.

Mamak, who has been suspended from duty with pay since December 12, 2007, has 30 days to appeal the decision.
