A Calgary police officer was dragged down the street before he could overpower the driver Friday.
At about 9:45 a.m. this morning an officer stopped a car for speeding. Police say the officer opened the door to arrest the male driver when he put the car in gear and began to drive away with the officer clinging to the car.
As the car drove off it sideswiped another vehicle.
Police say the officer then managed to pull himself into the car while wrestling with the driver, found the brake and stopped the car.
The driver was subdued with the assistance of a backup officer who had arrived moments earlier.
There were no injuries to the driver of the car or his female passenger.
The officer was transported to the hospital and treated for strains and bruising.
