Investigation into shooting underway
A Calgary Mountie was shot by a fellow officer yesterday morning during a raid on a mobile home west of Sundre.
Members of Calgary’s and Red Deer’s emergency response teams were executing a warrant about 5 a.m. when the RCMP officer was shot in the lower leg.
RCMP K Division’s Wayne Oakes said the officer was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The last we heard he was in relatively good condition considering his leg injury but seems to be in good spirits,” Oakes told Metro.
Oakes said in internal investigation is underway, but refused to give specific details about the incident.
“It would be too premature to release details yet without the full investigation into the facts. But we will be investigating the incident thoroughly and carefully to determine what happened.”
Five men were taken into police custody, one being arrested for allegedly firing a weapon inside the mobile.
Police were raiding the house in support of an illegal weapons search warrant.
