A long-serving Vancouver police officer has been suspended with pay after being arrested in Burnaby and charged with incest.

“The (department) considers the nature of the offence to be very serious and abhors the actions attributed to this member,” the VPD said in a press release.

“(We) will continue to provide the Burnaby RCMP with our complete co-operation.”

In accordance with the Police Act, the officer — who cannot be named because of a publication ban — will be suspended with pay for 30 days.

Chief Const. Jim Chu will then make recommendations to the Police Board as to whether the suspension will continue, with or without pay.

The VPD’s professional standards section will shadow the criminal investigation being conducted by the Burnaby RCMP, and will conduct a parallel investigation.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Vancouver provincial court in September.
