Toronto police have renewed an appeal to high school students to help them find missing teenager Mariam Makhniashvili.

The 17-year-old girl has not been seen since arriving at her school, Forest Hill Collegiate, on Sept. 14 with her younger brother.

Det.-Sgt. Dan Nealon asked students at nearby Northern Secondary school to keep Mariam in their “hearts and minds.”

He reminded the students that although she didn't attend that school she is “part of the larger community.”

Nealon, who will issue the same plea at another nearby school Friday, said what police need is “some light to point us in some direction.”

The only solid clue to date is the discovery of Mariam's backpack and some school books in a parking lot on Oct. 8.

Nealon said the parking lot, nestled among apartment buildings, is a hang-out spot for some teens and is used as a shortcut. He implored them to try to recall anything suspicious.
