Cops confirm dead baby discovered in bag a boy

Police have confirmed that a baby found stuffed inside a plastic bag in East Vancouver last week was a little boy.

The results of an autopsy, which are expected this week, will likely determine how the newborn died.

Const. Jana McGuinness said it’s too early to say with certainty if the baby was murdered, but police are treating his death as suspicious.

In the meantime, police are still appealing to the infant’s mother or anyone who knows her to contact authorities.

The baby was discovered between two houses in the 2500 block of Charles Street by a resident late Thursday morning.

Neighbours reacted with shock at the discovery, saying the area is quiet and safe, with many young families living nearby.
