Roads are closed, school is canceled and calls are going out to lock your doors in tiny Cadyville, New York, Thursday morning as cop converge on the town in the manhunt for escaped killers Richard Matt and David Sweat.

If the convicts are there, they didn't get far. Cadyville is only five miles from the Clinton Correctional facility, where they made their daring escape.

The search on Wednesday had also expanded to Vermont as the pair set a record for the longest jailbreak in New York history, authorities said.

Matt, 48, and Sweat, 34, escaped from Clinton Correctional in Dannemora, New York, five days ago, cutting through steel walls, squeezing through a steam pipe and popping out of a manhole.

More than 450 state, federal and local law enforcement agents were searching the area north of New York's rugged Adirondack Park before the action late Wednesday night turned to Cadyville.

A major road into the town,Route 374, was closed Thursday morning.
